A Peaceful Ride

A Peaceful RideI love the beautiful scenery created during sunset at a waterfront like the river or sea. This is my depiction of such a landscape in water color (on handmade sheet). Tried to create some drama by only choosing shades of yellow and green only for this one. What a lovely ride it would be on water at a lovely time of day like this!

A Long Shadowy Path

A Long Shadowy Path

Kharagpur, India, where I live, is very green and beautiful. There are many such paths (like the one you see above) where people take dreamy morning or leaving walks, enjoying the breeze and the beautiful views of nature around. It is refreshing for both the body and soul. I go around one such path everyday in my wheelchair and was inspired to capture this on paper.

Dancing Flowers

Not sure why, to me, these flowers look pretty and dressed-up like Indian dancers. And they were indeed dancing as the wind moved them :). I painted this bunch of vibrant colored flowers and leaves using water paint.

Pretty Bougainvillea

Bougainvillea flowers looking pretty in the wind. The petals of the flower seem like they are made of delicate, soft paper. This contrast of soft pink flowers and delicate green leaves was looking very pretty swaying in the breeze one evening, out came the hand-made paper and paints and here is the result :).

Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore was a great poet as well as the composer of the Indian National Anthem. He is still alive through his poems and Bengali music known as “Rabindra sangeet”.  This is my token of respect for him for his great works. This is also my first attempt of making a human portrait in Water color

Endless shades of Dahlia

Posted by on Feb 2, 2013 in Water Painting | 0 comments

I was so amused by the beauty of Dahlia that I decided to make multiple versions of this flower applying combinations of different colors. With its in-numerous petals all beautifully placed together, it is hard not to appreciate the charm of the flower. So, no – it is not Photoshop because of which you are seeing multiple variants of this painting :)

The Three of Us

The Three of Us

The Three of Us

This is my representation of the three of us – my brother, my sister and me. My sister, who cares for us and keeps checking on what we are doing, in the center, me on the right, with my arts and crafts that I love working on and my brother on the left, on his laptop, tapping away.

I know this picture is not accurate in many ways… as in how we look etc., but this is how I see us. Also, we are actually together in one place for only a few days every year, but we still feel as close as ever… and the above representation doesn’t change.

Pink Roses on Brown

Pink Roses on Brown

Pink Roses on Brown

I love Roses and pink is my favorite color. This painting shows a beautiful combination of the two. In order to add a (very) slight 3-D affect, I painted the roses and leaves first, then cut that out at the boundaries. Then I painted a brown background on another sheet of paper and then pasted the cut-out of the roses’ painting on it. This gives it a very slight 3-D affect.

Joyous baisakhi

Beshakhi-festival_WaterColor

This water painting depicts the Indian festival Baisakhi. I thought of making this because I wanted to show the enthusiasm and joy of this colorful festival. Through this painting of mine, I also wanted to convey that Baisakhi is a harvest festival for Punjabis. According to the Punjabi calendar, it is also the Punjabi New Year and comes in the month of March-April. It is a very popular festival of Punjab, and is especially important for the Sikh community as it also marks the establishment of the Khalsa. People of Punjab celebrate this festival by wearing colorful clothes, dancing their folk dance Bhangra, singing and playing dholak in their fields while harvesting their crops. The whole environment looks very colorful and full of energy during this time.
