Sometime back, I started working with black canvases as an experiment and have really enjoyed it. Here is a set of four paintings of just different types of leaves at different stages.
I love observing the changing colors of leaves – the beautiful shades of red, green, and yellow and their varying shapes always attract me.
The life cycle of a leaf is dictated by seasons. The leaf is “born”, then develops, reaches its maturity, then dries up. Most leaves come out in the spring, live through the summer, and die in the fall.
This is a depiction of a circle of life with leaves..
Starting with new red soft leaves of a tree as they grow. These specifically are of Solenostemon scutellarioides, common name Coleus – RedHead Plant. These leaves are of stunning colors and have beautiful patterns.
In the next one, I tried to paint full-bloomed leaves, flowers, and tendrils in the form of a natural bouquet in all its glorious colors – yellow, green, orange, pink, and violet. This happens in the spring season when flowers bloom and spread their bright colors and sweet smells in the atmosphere to cheer up mother earth and all its children!
In the third one of this set, I painted brownish dry leaves of the autumn season that have fallen on the ground. They dry up slowly and that changes the colors over time.
In this last painting, we can see the veins of the leaves. This is what a beautifully clear picture of the leaf’s veins looks like in shades of brown. A typical sight in the winter season is when leaves lying on the ground dry up completely.
