A magnificent South Indian Temple – the Chamundi Temple on Chamundi Hills. The hills are themselves very beautiful and a popular tourist destination for those visiting Mysore and other nearby cities. The temple is simply very beautiful, grand and has very detailed, intricate work.
I took this picture at one of my neighbor’s place. This ‘yagna’ setup was completely indoors! And guess what, it was daytime when I clicked it :).
Ekagrata – Standing tall and high against the dark. Silent, but determined. Clicked this one night when the power was out due to “load-shedding”
Glowing Fibers – Weightless fibers being illuminated by the evening sun.
These flowers grow in abundance during summer in Kharagpur, where I live. Light and airy, fragile and beautiful all at the same time.
A glimpse of Shravanabelagola – A burj on a Jain temple in Shravanabelagola.
This looks like a cross between a decorated pillar from a palace from the past and a fabric with rich Indian traditional designs. Bright colors and vibrant, glittering designs all speak of this rich and beautiful mix :). I had a lot of fun working on this one and while I let creativity flow, I tried to keep the boundaries clean and crisp so that the contrasting colors could shine through. Couldn’t resist glittering gold paint to enhance the richness of the bold colors used.
The title speaks for itself :), I chose black as the base and white as a contrasting color for the designs on this one. The shape of this pot is like a very traditional “handiya” that people used to keep butter and milk in, way in the past (even now you can see some shops keep sweets in such “handiyas”). So to keep with shape, the designs on this are also inspired by Indian traditional decorations seen around huts, small temples etc.
Yup, does the name get more pictorial ;)? The base color I chose here is maroon and used white as a stark contrast to make the designs pop. I chose to paint simple designs and let the beautiful contrast of colors to speak for itself :).
Soothing Pink
Pink is my favorite color and these days comes in a variety of shades with names occupying a whole range from “Hot Pink”, “Shocking Pink”, “Tickle Me Pink” , “Baby Pink” to the straight forward “Light Pink” or “Dark Pink”. I call this decoration a “Soothing Pink” as this pink seems soothing and also the shades used for the accompanying blues, greens etc. also seem soothing, quiet-ish but elegant. What you see here is one “Deeya” (earthen lamp) placed on top of an elongated terracotta pot. The base paint is of course “soothing” pink and the designs are done with other soothing colors and are traditionally inspired curves, dots, flowers and rhombi…
The way the potter made this one, this pot had ripples on its own. So naturally, I thought of doing something related to water and then thought of making this as an inside-out aquarium. So I used a shade of blue for the base and added meandering silver-white lines to further accentuate the ripples. No aquarium is complete without the aquatic flora and fauna :), so I made some colorful fishes out of clay and some sea plant like clay objects and attached them to this inside-out aquarium. I especially like the pink fish on the left swimming away from view :).
Avatar Inspired Garden
Liking a movie or not is subjective. One might not like the story and the characters, while someone else might. I wasn’t fully enamored by the story or the characters in Avatar, but the creativity and detailed work that was displayed was simply superb! This one is inspired by Avatar. Blue! Naturally, the base color chosen is Blue. A purple ribbon of color which has golden boundaries and silver dots for decoration drapes it. I made flowers and leaves from clay and painted and decorated them in bright colors and put a touch of glitter to match the decorations on the base. This is my Avatar Inspired decorated Terracotta pot :).
