This water painting depicts the Indian festival Baisakhi. I thought of making this because I wanted to show the enthusiasm and joy of this colorful festival. Through this painting of mine, I also wanted to convey that Baisakhi is a harvest festival for Punjabis. According to the Punjabi calendar, it is also the Punjabi New Year and comes in the month of March-April. It is a very popular festival of Punjab, and is especially important for the Sikh community as it also marks the establishment of the Khalsa. People of Punjab celebrate this festival by wearing colorful clothes, dancing their folk dance Bhangra, singing and playing dholak in their fields while harvesting their crops. The whole environment looks very colorful and full of energy during this time.
